India announces free 30-day visas for citizens of Kazakhstan

India has officially announced a free 30-day visa facility for citizens of Kazakhstan, aimed at boosting tourism, medical travel, and people-to-people engagement between the two countries. The announcement was made by India’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Y. K. Sailas Thangal, during celebrations marking the 77th Republic Day of India in Astana.

Under this new initiative, Kazakh nationals will be eligible for a gratis visa valid for up to 30 days for purposes such as tourism, medical treatment, and for accompanying patients. The visa can be applied for online as well as through in-person submissions at the Embassy of India.

The Ambassador highlighted that the move reflects India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and encouraging cultural and tourism exchanges. He noted that tourism ties are already growing, with an estimated 250,000 Indian citizens visiting Kazakhstan in 2025.

During his address, Ambassador Thangal also emphasized India’s position as one of the fastest-growing major global economies, with rapid progress in sectors such as information technology, artificial intelligence, fintech, pharmaceuticals, and digital infrastructure.

He further underlined the strategic partnership between India and Kazakhstan, including cooperation within international and regional platforms such as the United Nations, SCO, BRICS, CICA, and the India–Central Asia Dialogue. Kazakhstan remains India’s largest trading partner in Central Asia, with bilateral trade valued at around USD 1 billion, and significant potential for expansion in energy, logistics, healthcare, and technology.

The event concluded with warm Republic Day wishes and reaffirmation of both nations’ commitment to deepening cooperation in areas like defence, education, joint training programmes, and scholarship initiatives.
